Speed Calming Cameras on Dunwood Valley Drive
Slow Down
A speed calming camera was installed on Dunwood Valley Drive in early January 2024.  The speed limit is 25 mph - if you exceed the posted speed limit, you will eventually receive a ticket.

This is a major accomplishment for the community.  Cars are constantly speeding on DVD and there have been several accidents on the street.  For over 10 years the homeowners and HOA have been working diligently with the City Council and City Staff to make DVD safe.

This is an example of the City working with the community to address the community's concerns and needs.

Thank you to the photographer Michael Doaks for capturing this moment.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

A mural of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is painted on the external wall of the Bowie City Gym facing Northview Dr. The 22-foot-tall mural was painted by contemporary muralist, Desiree Kelly from Michigan.  The mural represents the legacy of Dr. King and his fight for social justice.

In Memoriam
Venora Anderson

May 19, 1926 - January 24, 2024

Venora Anderson, born on May 19, 1926, went to be with her heavenly father on January 24, 2024.  Venora lived with her daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Barbarol (BJ) James in Woodmore Highlands for ten (10) years.

Venora lost her mother when she was only three months old and was adopted by her aunt and uncle.  Ten years later her uncle passed away and Venora and her aunt moved to Washington, DC.

Venora met Private Norman Anderson in Fort Meade, MD.   They married and moved to Philadelphia. While in Philadelphia she worked at the Veteran Administration Department until she retired in 1983. She was very active in Calvary St. Augustine Episcopal Church where she served on the Church’s Vestry, became a member of the Church’s Red Hatter Club and tutored adults at the church.  She lost her husband after sixty years of marriage.

Venora leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Brenda Anderson James, son-in-law Barbarol J. James and a host of family members.

Brenda and BJ, Woodmore Highlands sends our condolences and prayers to you and your family.
