Celebrating Our Dads
Happy Father's Day
June 19, 2022

On the third Sunday in June, we honor our fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, paternal bonds, as well as their influence on society.   Fathers are pillars in the family teaching their sons and daughters strength and independence.  King of their castles, they lay down the rules, enforce them and provide a feeling of security, both physical and emotional.  To all the great fathers Woodmore Highlands Board of Directors wishes you a Fantastic Father’s Day!

Pride Month
Celebrate the LGBTQ Community

In June we  celebrate the LGBTQ community and all the vibrant and colorful personalities that they share with the world.  Pride month is an opportunity to peacefully protest and raise political awareness of current issues facing the LGBTQ community.

Every year, during the month of June, theb LGBTQ community celebrates in a number of different ways. Across the globe, various events are held as a way of recognizing the influence LGBTQ people have had around the world. In June 1969 at Stonewall Inn, in New York City’s Greenwich Village the LGBTQ community was raided and after being beaten numerous times, they decided to fight back.  Thus, in recognition of their courage, the month of June was selected to celebrate Pride Month.

Woodmore Highlands supports our LGBTQ family.

HOA Assessments
HOA  Annual Assessment
The Board is happy to share that all 124 homeowners have paid their 2022 assessments.

Although the assessments have been paid,  seven (7) homeowners still owe small balances for interest, late penalties, and transaction fees.

Woodmore Highlands has been very successful in collecting assessments.  Offering homeowners more payment options may have been attributed to the higher collection rates.  This year, 89 (72%) of the homeowners paid their assessments electronically.  The Board encourages homeowners to electronically pay their assessments,  even though the service providers have increased their transaction fees and some of the HOA processing procedures have changed. Paying electronically offers convenience to both the homeowners and the Board.

Juneteeth
CELEBRATE
June 19, 2022
Juneteenth, a national holiday, honors the end of slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday.

This federal holiday observes and celebrates African-American culture. Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, TX in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. U.S. General Gordon Granger stood on Texas soil and read General Orders No. 3: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.”  General Granger and the troops arrived two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation proclamation.
The year following 1865, freedmen in Texas organized the first of what became the annual celebration of "Jubilee Day" on June 19.

In 1979, Texas became the first state to make Juneteenth an official holiday.  Many states followed and adopted the holiday over the years.  In June 2021, Congress passed a resolution establishing Juneteenth as a national holiday and President Biden signed it into law on June 17, 2021
